Artwork & Design Guidelines
To ensure the best possible engraving results, customers are welcome to provide their own artwork, logos, graphics, and designs. While our laser systems can produce incredible detail, not every image translates well to engraving, and some artwork may need minor adjustments before production.
Artwork that typically works best:
- Vector files (.AI, .EPS, .SVG, .PDF)
- High-resolution black-and-white artwork
- Simple logos and clean line art
- Text-based designs
- Monograms and custom names
- Military, law enforcement, and unit insignias
- Company logos
- QR codes and serial number markings
- High-contrast photographs intended for photo engraving
Artwork that may require modification:
- Low-resolution images pulled from social media
- Screenshots
- Blurry or pixelated photos
- Images with busy backgrounds
- Artwork containing extremely fine details that may not scale well to smaller engraving areas
- Designs with excessive shading, gradients, or color transitions
Aesthetic Considerations
Laser engraving is different from printing. While we can engrave highly detailed designs, some images simply do not produce attractive results on certain materials or surfaces. The size of the engraving area, material type, coating color, and surface texture all affect the final appearance.
For example:
- Highly detailed photographs may look excellent on tumblers and plaques but lose clarity when reduced to fit a knife blade.
- Thin script fonts can become difficult to read on small surfaces.
- Dark, busy artwork may need simplification to create a cleaner, more professional engraving.
- Some logos designed for full-color printing may require conversion to a single-color engraving format.
If we believe a design will not engrave well, we’ll discuss options with you before production. Our goal is to create an engraving that not only works technically but also looks great when finished.
Proof Approval
For custom artwork, logos, and complex projects, digital proofs may be provided prior to engraving. This allows customers to review placement, sizing, and overall appearance before work begins.
